My Experience with The Law of Attraction

Updated: Jan 27, 2020

The Law of Attraction seems to be the new buzzword out there these days, at least in the "enlightened" and spiritual circles, those where people are seeking a deeper meaning to their life’s journey and are eager to create a life on their own terms instead of accepting a life passively acquired by default. According to Esther and Jerry Hicks (“The Law of Attraction”, 2006), “You will begin to recognize the exact correlation between what you have been thinking about and what is actually coming into your experience. It is accurate to say that you are creating your own reality.” This law involves not only the thoughts that you think, but the energy that is behind the thoughts that you think. “To better understand the Law of Attraction, see yourself as a magnet attracting unto you the essence of that which you are thinking and feeling”, say Esther and Jerry in their bestselling book. This factor is even more important than thinking about what you want to manifest into your life experience. It is the feelings behind the thoughts that we think that are drawing certain experiences into our lives. It's not enough to just want for something. It is imperative that you feel “as if” that which you desire is already in your reality (which it is, you just can't see it yet in your physical world). At one time in my life, I desired to obtain a teaching position with a school that I was attending as a student, even though I was not a professional teacher with credentials on my side. I did know that regardless of my apparent lack of a PhD in spirituality or similar educational credits to my name, that all things are possible, including a position with this educational facility. I also knew though, that my wanting this in my life was not enough for it to manifest. In fact, remaining in a place of wanting something you have yet to achieve or receive, will only draw to you more wanting and lack of having, keeping what you desire out of reach! Understanding these concepts thoroughly, I knew the importance of feeling and acting as if my desire were a reality, so I set out to do things that would allow me to truly feel as I would feel if the experience were already mine. The first thing I chose to do was to write up my own job description, outlining exactly the type of work I would be doing and the financial compensation I would receive in return. Then I proceeded to regularly email this job description (along with an offer of employment letter that I had also written) to myself, as if I was receiving it from the founder of the school. I even went so far as to write "Welcome to the Team!" as an added post-script at the end of the job offer letter. Every day I would expect and envision (and receive from myself) an email offer of employment from the founder of the school that I was attending and wanting to work for upon graduation. Part of my day was always spent reading this offer and job description many times over and deeply feeling "as if". I sent myself authentic looking weekly pay cheques to my home address. These were complete with an accurate replica of the school's return address envelope and an authentic looking cheque, including a cut and paste signature from the CEO of the school. I allowed no doubt to enter my mind about the possibility of this experience being drawn into my life, it was only a matter of time. Doing these types of activities allows the feeling of having a particular life experience to truly be felt within you. Feeling and believing are the most necessary action steps of the universal law of attraction. "If you just intellectually believe something, but you have no corresponding feeling underneath that, you don't necessarily have enough power to manifest what you want in your life. You have to feel it." (Michael Bernard Beckwith, Founder of the “Agape International Spiritual Centre” and contributor to the best-selling book “The Secret”, 2006). Three months after I began envisioning, believing and feeling this desire I received an email from the founder of the school, offering me a position as her teacher's assistant. I hadn't even finished my own education with the school yet, but was being offered almost the exact position I had desired. To say I was shocked is an understatement! This was the first time that I had experienced The Law of Attraction in my reality and although I believed in it and had studied it for years, witnessing the truth of it first-hand was nothing short of amazing. The icing on the cake was the final words in the REAL job offer email, which were "Welcome to the Team!" The Law of Attraction is real and available to each and every one of us if we choose to use it. The book that got me started on my spiritual journey was “The Celestine Prophecy" by James Redfield, a book I would highly recommend to introduce yourself to digging a bit deeper into why we are here in this lifetime and how we can choose to look at our life’s journey a little differently. An easy and entertaining read on manifesting a life of your choosing is “Infinite Possibilities” (Mike Dooley, 2010), another great book I highly recommend about consciously manifesting a life of your own making. Everything you desire IS possible … dream it, feel and believe it and you WILL see it!
